WILD SUN Gear Up for Elliott Smith Tribute Album with Rigby EP

unnamed

FFO Silversun Pickups, Death Cab for Cutie, Delta Spirit, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age

PROVIDENCE, RI // April 22, 2016 : Rhode Island’s favorite alt-rock trio Wild Sun is gaining traction by leaps and bounds, as their collaborative effort for upcoming Elliott Smith Tribute Album titled “Say Yes” (featuring Amanda Palmer, Waxahatchee, Jesu/Sun Kil MoonJ Mascis and more) hits pages of RollingStone, SPIN, Consequence of Sound and Pitchfork ahead of its October 14, 2016 release date. Singer, Glenn Kendzia exclaims, “The Elliott Smith tribute album is a huge honor to be a part of. Elliott is one of my favorite songwriters ever, and his writing is extremely influential to me in his candor and honesty.” He continues, “The song we covered, ‘Easy Way Out,’ is one of those songs that hit me so hard the first time I heard it, that I listened over and over to it and believed it was somehow written for exactly how I felt at the time I first heard it. I never shook that relationship with the song, and when we we’re asked to be a part of this album, that song was the one I had to do.”

Wild Sun is not the kind of band to sit around and wait for an October release, however. Striking while the iron is hot, they partnered up with Vanyaland [LINK] to premiere their brand new Rigby EP,  out today via American Laundromat Records!  A follow-up to their critically-acclaimed album Little Truths, released last September, the new EP is available now on all digital platforms including Spotify, iTunes, and Bandcamp.

The band describes the new material as “noticeably louder” in closer reflection of their live show experience. In order to achieve this while recording, they used all of their live show gear, crammed the stacks of amps into a live room and turned them turned way up. Glenn explains the new production direction, “We tracked the songs with Mike Moschetto (bassist of Aviator), who has recorded several New England and touring hardcore and loud rock bands. We know we are an alternative rock band, but wanted to give these specific songs the heavy, loud treatment.” Glenn continues, “We had Bryce Goggin (known for work with Pavement, Phish, and Lemonheads), who produced and recorded our debut album, mix the tracks to tape, so that the release would fit our sound and style and not be too much of a 180. The result is two tracks that pick up where the debut album left off, but go in a bit of a different direction rather than a straight path.”

Wild Sun will play a showcase tonight (4.22.16) at The Knickerbocker in Westerly, RI to celebrate the EP release. To ramp up the hype, the first physical copies of Rigby EP will be for sale at the show and on their website.

Local alternative station 95.5 WBRU gushes, “When Glenn sings, he feels it—the music, the song, the lyrics, the truth. You can tell that he sings of a deep and personal truth. Behind the jokes is someone who was meant to play music.” Wild Sun’s strong local support won them a nomination as Motif Magazine’s 2014 “Breakthrough Act of the Year,” as their fresh and honest approach connects with fans and critics alike.

Wild Sun has a heavy show schedule for the spring, culminating with a performance at Northside Festival in Brooklyn this June [Details]. The band will be utilizing the summer months to record their sophomore full-length album, taking a short break to open for The Wombats on Friday, August 12 as part of Providence’s summer concert series, sponsored by WBRU and Dunkin Donuts. Be sure to catch them at the tour dates below and grab your copy of Rigby EP.

BIOGRAPHY: Wild Sun stands apart from the noise and imitation with their honest brand of energetic rock and roll. In a time when every channel is overloaded with the same old thing, Wild Sun is fresh and raw, and yet accessibly familiar. In less than two years together, the trio of alternative rockers have earned their stay as one of the most promising bands around. With their their debut album coined by Motif as “one of the Top Albums of 2015” alongside Wilco and Kendrick Lamar, frequent radio airplay, and a live show that breaks bar sales records, Wild Sun is armed for the front lines. Their debut EP, “Rigby EP,” is now available via all digital platforms.

There was a time where music was built on great songs, and undeniable passion. There was a time when live shows threw caution into the wind, and musicians improvised and simply made music. Those times are back, and Rhode Island’s Wild Sun are already at the party—cases cracked.

Wild Sun Release New Album Little Truths

PROVIDENCE, RI // September 18, 2015 – Small town dreams can come true, as WILD SUNproves with the release of their new album Little Truths today. Full of irresistibly accessible vibes, wit and charm, their album is fresh, honest and soothingly relateable.

The band released their first single “Shy Hinges” on Vanyaland earlier this month and gave a sneak peek stream of the record in its entirety via Under The Gun Review just a few days ago, winning the heart of listeners with it’s moving, honest and pure rock n’ roll sound. The album focuses on themes of heartbreak and small town woes, intimately accessible to listeners of any background.

“Ultimately, the album was a breakup album,” shared frontman Glenn Kendzia. “I was in a really dark place after a breakup with someone I was intensely involved with. It was a phase that rearranged many of my views and outlooks on life, and the album was written in the midst of these new-formed perspectives and understanding of myself and things around me.” Born and raised in a small town, the album also confronts the claustrophobia and judgement found in such communities, and torn dual yearning for comfort yet escape of the familiar.

Local alternative station 95.5 WBRU noted, “When Glenn sings, he feels it—the music, the song, the lyrics, the truth. You can tell that he sings of a deep and personal truth. Behind the jokes is someone who was meant to play music.” Wild Sun’s strong local support won them a nomination as Motif Magazine’s 2014 “Breakthrough Act of the Year” as their fresh and honest approach connects with fans and critics alike.

Released on American Laundromat Records, the album can be purchased through the label’s website here, or online via Itunes or Amazon. The band will be playing their release show tonight at the The Knickerbocker in their hometown of Westerly, RI and will also be a part of this years CMJ Music Marathon 2015.

“I wrote ‘Shy Hinges’ a late October afternoon during the most intense part of Hurricane Sandy when it hit Rhode Island,” said vocalist Glenn Kendzia.  “I was in my house looking out the window and strumming my guitar to keep calm. I was watching trees get blown to the point of breaking, and realized a tall old one in my backyard could easily crash into the house. I had to accept that no matter what happened I would be okay.”

He continued explaining, “The song is not about the storm or the house, but at the time I was in the thick of an awful, devastating breakup. I had to remind myself no matter what I got myself into I could still only go forward. It’s one of the few songs I remember the exact spot I was sitting, what I was thinking, and exactly how it all came together. It was a powerful, cathartic moment for me.”

Breaking through the noise of the scene, Wild Sun comes with a fresh and honest approach. Nominated as Motif Magazine’s 2014 “Breakthrough Act of the Year” and recognized by local and regional publications alike, their passionate sound has been captured in their debut album Little Truths, due out September 18th on American Laundromat Records.
