FFO# Tame Impala, MGMT, Washed Out
NEW JERSEY| SEPT 29, 2023: Artist, songwriter, and producer Solar Bloom releases the new dream pop single “This Tiny World” on Friday, September 29th. Solar Bloom, the name behind multi-instrumentalist Matt DeVoti, is the first single by the artist dropping in 2023 after taking time off to write and develop his distinctive indie sound.
The artist is part of a larger music scene of creators such as the band Human Zoo, Sarah and The Safe Word, and Machinery of the Human Heart, who have all found one another via their collaborations and shows alongside the cult favorite artist Will Wood. This scene of art-pop producers and videographers has tapped into a thriving audience who crave exemplary musicianship and originality in a world filled with the noise of mediocre pop culture.
Drawing inspiration from the innovative sounds of Stereo Lab, Solar Bloom crafted “This Tiny World” with a playful production style by weaving a tapestry of digital and analog instruments, intricate guitar riffs, and lush, reverb-soaked vocal layers.
At the heart of “This Tiny World” lies a profound exploration of non-verbal communication, both between animals and humans and among fellow humans. Solar Bloom describes the inspiration behind the song, saying, “The idea came while I was sitting with my cat thinking, ‘I feel like I understand this little creature so well but how can that be when we don’t even speak the same language?’ It led me to think about how much communication is done non-verbally not just between me and my cat but between me and others as well. I explored this idea in This Tiny World by using the imagery of a cat talking to its owner to illustrate the ways people express affection for each other without using words. My cat Max is essentially an inspiration for the song.”
The initial track was created digitally and came quickly. Once the demo was complete, producer Joey Papa re-amped the guitars, recorded live drums, and heightened the recording overall. By recording the vocals in his home studio, DeVoti crafts a finished demo exactly as he wants it to sound before he works with Joey at Sonoma Beach Studios, New Jersey. “This Tiny World” was mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Joe Lambert.
