Jacksonville, FL | May 8, 2025 Award-winning author and Nashville Songwriters Association International member Tracy Russell announces the May 8th release of her new single “Firefly,” a heartfelt acoustic folk ballad dedicated to those affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
Russell, currently based in Jacksonville, Florida, delivers a powerful vocal performance that critics have compared to the resonant depths of k.d. lang and the emotional clarity of Brandi Carlile. The track was produced by long-time collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Josh Cobb, who provides the complementary instrumentation that has become a signature element of their creative partnership.
“I wrote this song in the days after the LA wildfires erupted in January 2025,” Russell shares. “Like all my favorite songs, it came in a ten-minute burst of inspiration from the heavens while processing my emotions seeing the devastation online. The goal was simple – to bring hope to those who experienced the tragedy, whether in-person or vicariously.”
The single showcases Russell’s distinctive songwriting style that blends retro folk and Americana influences, developed during her journey from the mountains of northeast Vermont to the sunny shores of Florida, where she has resided since 2022.
“Firefly” will be available on all major streaming platforms beginning May 8th and serves as a preview of Russell’s forthcoming debut EP “Songbird,” scheduled for release in July 2025.
