BOSTON | August 30, 2024 Singer-songwriter Jodi Heights releases her new single “Mother Night” on Friday, August 30, 224. This haunting love song to night is her first composition using a vocal harmonizer and the fifth and final song from her night-themed album Nocturne. “Mother Night” is a piece for solo voice, aided by a vocal harmonizer to create the sound of a choir. The artist recorded the entire song in one take to maintain a seamless flow, ensuring nothing separates the listener from the voice.
Lyrically, “Mother Night” invites us to bask in the mystery and beauty of the dark and its symbolism for intuition, instinctual nature, and the unconscious:
Now the silence is lovely and deep
As the noise and the light go to sleep
Beautiful darkness
Black and velvety
Reveal the hidden depths of night in me
The cricket sings my soul awake to starlit skies
I wax and wane like a moon
And waltz with the fireflies
Jodi elaborates:
“‘Mother Night’ is my love song to the dark, and an invitation for listeners to delve into the unknown parts of themselves. I felt like a capella voices would be the most effective choice for the nocturnal atmosphere I wanted to create, so I experimented with a vocal harmonizer, and the song emerged. It took me back to all my years of choral singing. What a delight to be able to hear myself singing bass for the first time in my life! -JH
I hope people will receive this song, and the whole ‘Nocturne’ album, as a lullaby to their weary hearts. Turn off all the lights. Maybe burn a few candles, and listen to the whole album at night. Come find your way in the dark.” -JH
“Mother Night” will be released in Dolby Atmos, a spatial audio technology for immersive sound which means you can listen to music from above, below, and all around you, and available on Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, and TIDAL. This is the fourth song from Jodi’s night-themed album ‘Nocturne’ and her second recording at Futura Productions, working with Grammy-nominated engineer John Weston who also produces all of her livestream concerts on Patreon. To accompany the release of her music, Jodi Heights has introduced a limited edition “Nocturnal Journal.” This 72-page paperback guides journalers from dusk through the depths of night and into dawn. It provides a space for writers to explore their relationship with the night through thought-provoking prompts while enjoying art and lyrics from the album. The book features artwork inspired by Jodi’s album “Nocturne” and includes a link for those who purchase it to listen to the entire album before its official streaming release.
