OR: PRINCE, DUA LIPA, AND TAME IMPALA HAD A BABY AND CALLED IT FREDERICK, THE FIRST’S NEW SINGLE “TAKE ME AWAY”
LOS ANGELES | AUGUST 18, 2023: Los Angeles-based Artist/Producer Frederick, The First releases the alt-pop dance single “Take Me Away” on August 18, 2023, to all streaming platforms. With flavors of indie dance, classic disco, a touch of jazz, indie rock, and funk all fused together in one delicious musical fantasy. In retrospect, the artist realizes in the lyrics that he is quite literally asking the listener to “Take Me Away”, to a future romantic partnership. But what is so genius is that the storyline of the lyrics are easily relatable for anyone who simply wishes to be taken away from any place in their life that they need a break from.
Highlighting the outstanding production is the falsetto vocal line, something so fresh, so enviable of any other male artist out there. Frederick is the ultimate musical triple threat: vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. By peering into the Instagram and TikTok account one immediately sees the man behind the music is an absolute master of funk basslines, vocals, ridiculous jazz licks on the keyboard, and creative production, and incidentally, this is where the single was originally conceived. It is when the artist created a post on Instagram, that he composed the building blocks of what has become “Take Me Away”.
Hailing from Minneapolis, a city steeped in musical history, the artist’s upbringing near the former residence of Prince has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on his creative journey. Echoes of retro-eighties Prince resonate within Frederick, The First’s musical DNA, as he seamlessly melds funk-infused beats with disco and jazz nuances. The result is a harmonious blend that retains commercial appeal, resonating not only with music fans but also with industry insiders eager for fresh and exciting production concepts.
As 2023 unfolds, Frederick’s artistic evolution also draws parallels with the likes of Kevin Parker from Tame Impala. Similar to Parker, Frederick possesses the innate ability to infuse disco rhythms with indie rock sensibilities, resulting in an innovative sonic experience that transcends traditional boundaries.
Frederick, The First adds:
“Take Me Away” was meant to be a short piece of online content. Initially, with a bassline, drums, and melody, there was no immediate lyrical direction. After some fresh air, words emerged but with no sense of any particular meaning. Only in retrospect can I say that it’s about being stuck, for whatever reason, in romantic isolation. As if it would be a miracle to fall in love. But maybe, just maybe, there comes a point to where it’s a choice… maybe.” – FTF
About: “Frederick, the First” is an artist/multi-instrumentalist/producer working and living in Los Angeles. Displaying his follies, wisdoms, life tragedies, and comedies, his music contains a smattering of delicious vocal harmonies along with unique approaches to arrangement/composition leaving it hard to describe. Once labeled as a soupy goulash of D’Angelo meets the Talking Heads, his previous releases; a series of three EP’s “The First Ones”, “The Second Ones” and “The Third Ones” are the best ways to convey the story as it’s meant to be told.
