This Indie-Rock, Alt-Country artist tells a story of taking the road less traveled
Album Release show: September 27th at The Bowery Electric, NYC
NEW YORK | SEPTEMBER 13, 2024: The indie-rock songwriter and artist Jennifer Silva releases her new single “Runaway” on all streaming platforms on Friday, September 13th. A distinctive blend of rock, soul, and country-Americana, this track marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Silva who will release the full album “Wildflowers” on September 27th. Her rootsy, soulful sound paired with images of animal spirits, nature, dreams, and trademark mystical folklore takes us on a joyride searching for answers and finding signs everywhere she goes.
Showcasing her memorable lyrics and powerful vocals and supported by her band of talented, touring musicians, and a modern production, Silva will not disappoint fans who love getting lost in stories and metaphor. Inspired by a major life decision and the journey getting to where she is now Silva’s “Runaway” captures the essence of facing one’s fears and running toward the storm of life. After 25 years of living in New York City, Silva relocated with her family to the countryside of upstate New York. Uprooting and moving to the woods was very hard and lonely but she stayed focused and finally found her way…following the music and her intuition, as always. Inspired by nature and the wildlife around her, Silva’s newest album is a collection of 11 songs capturing that first emotional year of change.
“Runaway” is the 2nd single and title track from her new album, and it tells the story of a young woman with a buffalo tattoo, stuck in her mundane life, who chooses to face her fears and follow the road less traveled. The American Buffalo takes center stage in this story, as these majestic creatures are known to charge in the rain – they instinctively know that they will spend less time weathering the storm if they just run through it, rather than away from it. Silva uses this metaphor to explain how she felt about leaving her life in Brooklyn behind and starting anew in Upstate NY… and to encourage her audience to face their own fears in life as well.
Silva’s style, vocal strength, and lyrical prowess remind us of rockers with souls like Grace Potter and Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, as well as powerhouse singers like Maggie Rose and Rachel Price of Lake Street Dive. Silva’s storytelling is a testament to her Alt-Country influences like Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, and Margo Price. Legacy artists that she looks to as major music influences include Stevie Nicks, Tori Amos, and The Rolling Stones.
This Country-Soul and Indie-Rock track was written by Jennifer Silva and produced by Bassist Errick Lewis. Silva’s signature vocals, storytelling lyrics, and a keyboard riff get us moving and leave us wanting to run away with her.
“She wants to run away. But where she’s running to and what she’s running from, only she can say.”
“And even though she’s scared and frankly, unprepared, she knows she can’t stay.”
“How far does the buffalo roam, before it finds its way home.”
ABOUT: Silva’s music is a unique blend of heartfelt, honest lyrics, inspired by nature and elements of the Occult, paired with soulful arrangements. She is known to use tarot card readings for guidance and remains deeply aware of her natural surroundings and animal spirit connections, which include the snake, the damselfly, the doe, and the buffalo. Silva’s unique ability to tell her stories in a cinematic yet soulful way leads us to explore spirituality, self-realization, and our own intuition.
Part of the Brooklyn music scene, Jennifer Silva is a distinctive songwriter and artist who blends rock with soul and Americana. Known for writing and performing evocative, captivating music, she explores the saint and the sinner in all of us. Silva’s live performances leave audiences fixated on her storytelling and vocal power. Her forthcoming album takes us on a journey through the last 2 years of Silva’s life – getting messages from the Universe (Madame Sonja, Damselfy), leaving the past behind (Rearview Mirror, Runaway, The Devil That You Know), enjoying a newfound peace within (Run with the Deer, Wildflowers) and anticipating what’s next (Hold the Rain, Valhalla). Previous releases include the 2021 “Landline” and “Purgatory Road”, both a single and full album. Her 2020 releases include “I Wash My Hands”, and in 2018 Silva released her debut album “Bluest Sky, Darkest Earth” featuring the breakout single “Command Z”.
