An infectious guitar-based indie anthem
NEW YORK, NY | November 10, 2022 – New York City native Emmrose releases her new single “Coffee and Commitment” on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, a song to celebrate breaking free from a non-relationship. A surprise from Emmrose, this is an up-tempo, energy-filled indie guitar-based song, fueled with her hallmark of relatable lyrics. The song will resonate with anyone who wants to be set free of or has ever experienced a dead-end “nowhere” relationship. Always the hopeless romantic, Emmrose drew from her own past experiences for inspiration, as she once found herself with someone she now realized was only looking for their own self-interests. Written on guitar rather than piano, this new sound for Emmrose was recorded, mixed, and mastered by her go-to collaborator Mike Abiuso at Behind the Curtains Media in Brooklyn.
Here is the backstory from Emmrose:
“I wanted the lyrics to call out this kinda manipulation I see all the time, the “let’s be friends” line, even though both people know it’ll never be the same when there are feelings involved. The song isn’t about giving up on love, it’s about moving on. There’s no point pining after someone who will never commit to something real. I wrote the song about relationships that are going nowhere. Relationships when they don’t want to take you out to dinner, you just grab coffee. They only text you when they’re “lonely”, though they’ll never go out of their way for you— you know that they’ll never commit to a full on relationship, even if that’s what you want.
I wish I had the guts to write this song a few years ago when I was totally experiencing this exact situation with a guy. It’s not even that he had a fear of commitment, he was purely selfish. If someone really wants to be with you, they’ll put in effort and real work on themselves— relationships shouldn’t be one-sided.”
