“WHERE THORNS WERE NOW GROW ROSES”
BROOKLYN | OCTOBER 22, 2021 Indie-Pop songstress Emmrose releases the title track to her upcoming EP called “Thorns” on Friday, October 22nd, with an exclusive premiere Thursday, October 21st on media site Music for the Misfits. This heartfelt pop-acoustic piece is without a doubt her most personal and emotional release to date, with a production style reflecting back to her singles “Ballad for the Boy Next Door” and “The Imposter”.
Lyrically, “Thorns” is one of the most cathartic songs Emmrose has ever written. Every verse was about a different person in her life with whom she carried some resentment against, but wants things to change for the better. She explains that thorns represent her open wounds; they are the people in her life that continue to hurt her, even if they aren’t in her life anymore.
I wonder
How they see me now
Will they regret all about
Will they shudder
Just at the thought
My thorns surround them now
“I wrote this song to finally move on from so many people. It was really necessary for me to write. Holding grudges holds me back from making closer connections to people, and I finally feel like I’ve begun healing. I’m not afraid anymore to meet new people and to make friends. I don’t feel like my past is holding me down anymore.
The first verse of Thorns summarizes a bit of why I wrote my EP Hopeless Romantics. I wrote those songs to heal from a past love, and I continue to carry that weight with me, like the wound is still raw, even though it’s been three years.
The pre-chorus starts bringing in a forgiveness element, which is really important to me. I believe people can change, but one’s willingness gets in the way. If people from my past reached out and apologized, I would probably forgive them, though I doubt that anyone will.” -Emmrose
A striking point in differentiation in this new track compared to earlier pieces is the addition of the concert viola, performed by fifteen-year-old high school student Andrew Jensen. Jensen, who came to tour the recording studio on the same day Emmrose had her recording session for “Thorns”, found himself in the studio’s live room tracking the gorgeous harmonies that support Emmrose’s vocals within 30 minutes of his visit. A highly proficient instrumentalist despite his age. In 2018 Andrew won The Diller-Quaile Orchestra’s concerto competition culminating with a solo performance at Merkin Hall. He is currently studying chamber music through New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music program.
ABOUT: Emmrose, at only 18-years old, is a prolific writer, and has already released 13 singles and one EP, Hopeless Romantics, which has gained nearly one million streams on Spotify, a commendable achievement for an unsigned, independent artist so young. Emmrose was born and raised in Manhattan and started writing music at the age of 13 and performing in area NYC clubs at the age of 14. Emmrose is beginning her first year of college at The New School while continuing to write, release, and perform her music. Emmrose works exclusively at Behind the Curtains Media recording studios for her solo work in Brooklyn, NY. Emmrose is signed to Secret Road Music services for sync licensing.
WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:
Indie Music Center, September 7, 2021:
“What I love about Emmrose is her fascinating universe. The first 20 seconds of “Ragdoll” seems straight out of a slightly worn music box. You just have to close your eyes … and it’s like finding yourself in an attic full of dust and cobwebs. Emmrose has this gift of being able to draw a complete universe just with a few notes, before even starting to sing! And when her voice comes in, suddenly the song lights up, and we’re happy to say “ah, Emmrose, I missed you”. Because this artist is a creative genius. Each of her songs is like a chapter in a book of fantastic and mystical stories.”
“Afterlife” is a beautiful song with a lot of replay value, and one that we would love to hear live. Emmrose is a singer with great and promising potential, and for this reason she integrates our list of the best artist of 2021”
