NEW YORK, NY | Aug. 28, 2023 Indie Pop Artist Emmrose releases her second album, Thorns, an album two years in the making. The full album contains eleven songs that express both her letting go of the past and starting a new chapter in her musical journey.
As found in the lyrics of the title track “Thorns”, the artist wanted to share her collection of songs all about holding grudges, and ultimately, forgiveness. The title “Thorns” has a metaphorical meaning, symbolizing the thorns that grew in place of what used to be healthy relationships, but have now turned toxic. The songs featured on the album detail various cases of “Thorns”, which Emmrose shares about her journey of letting go and making peace with those who have wronged her in her past, by sharing her side of the narrative.
The songs featured in Emmrose’s first full-length album is a culmination of seven past singles as well as four previously unreleased songs from her archive, “Electric Nights”, “Hannah”, Waiting for Nowhere”, “Andromeda” and “Song for Lex”. The artist is releasing a lyric video for “Electric Nights” on August 11th and working on a full-length music video for “Waiting for Nowhere”.

In Emmrose’s own words:
This announcement is such a long time coming, it’s been years since I teased the Thorns album. The funny thing is, you’ve heard most of the songs already! In this strange era of the music industry, everything revolves around singles and putting out material quickly one right after another, and I find it incredibly overwhelming. When I thought of the Thorns album, I really had this collective story in mind that I wanted to tell, one that revolves around moving on from the past and finding forgiveness for those who wronged you.
I wanted to make Thorns– well an “album”, even when I wrote the title track! Every verse in that song centers around other songs on the album, kinda like a hint of what’s to come. It feels like an eternity has passed since I wrote them, they feel like a little time capsule of my life two years ago.
There are some never before heard songs on Thorns that I am so excited for you to hear, particularly the tracks “Electric Nights” and “Waiting for Nowhere”. I was inspired by the sound of the 1980’s when I was working on “Electric Nights” with Richard Orofino, and I really just had this vision of a prom in the 80’s, and this person wanted to ask their crush to dance, but they got rejected. When I heard the lush synth sound with a slow dance beat, the lyrics really flowed, and I got a complete picture of the scene, setting, and feelings I wanted to convey.
For “Waiting for Nowhere”, it’s another song full of longing. I am so proud of this song that I worked on with Mike Abiuso, I just absolutely adore it. The piano, the strings, the haunting melodies! It was so fun to write and record. The song is about getting stood up on a date, and how the person is just waiting for this seemingly indefinite period of time, not having any way of knowing if the person would eventually show up. The bridge lyrics are some of my favorite, just talking about how romance is portrayed in movies, and how that uncertainty is really scary in real life, you’re not guaranteed a rom-com happy ending.
Her partner for 4 years, Thorns, The Gallows, Waiting for Nowhere, The Feeling’s Mutual, Hannah, Song For Lex, Andromeda, and Brave New World were all recorded, arranged, produced, mixed, and mastered by Mike Abiuso at Behind the Curtains Media.
ABOUT: Emmrose, 19, is a native New Yorker, Groover Obsessions Artist , and signed to Secret Road Music for sync licensing. She records her music with Mike Abiuso at Behind the Curtains Media in Brooklyn, NY, and with Indie Artist Richard Orofino.
Her debut EP Hopeless Romantics was released one week before New York City entered the covid lockdown of 2020, and with all of her shows cancelled, she decided to perform weekly live streams from her home where she connected with thousands of kids in the world who took refuge with her music. Two years later, she has released 18 singles and her Album Hopeless Romantics won Best Pop Album in the 2020 WAM Awards. In May of 2020 her single “The Grass Was Greener” was placed on two Spotify Editorial playlists, a surprising event due to the fact that the entire recording and production had been done remotely during the COVID lockdown in NYC, with Emmrose in her Manhattan bedroom and her producer Mike Abiuso working in his Brooklyn apartment. The song “Five Months” is sync’d to the opening scene of the indie film “Searching for the Wave” and the single “Waitlisted” aired on MTV’s Teen Mom in November of 2021.
WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:
Britannic Creations, May 2023: Emmrose “Falling Again” & The Alienation of Anxiety
“There’s a surreal energy to Emmrose’s single and the smooth, almost celestial, tone of her voice brings you on a gentle journey through difficult terrain. The lyrics hold a lot of weight to them and hold so much power. Her line in the song, “There’s no good reason”, is sometimes the hardest part of it all when it comes to experiencing a panic attack.”
Clout Magazine, May 2023: On Her New Single “Falling Again” Emmrose Documents a Panic Attack in Captivating, Transfixing Fashion
“Emmrose has consistently established herself as a songwriter who’s storytelling style often feels immersive and transfixing, but this track feels like a whole new level altogether, with its atmospheric nature and alluring vocal melodies making for a captivating and empowering listening experience that will stick to you and follow you around for long after your listen.”
