BROOKLYN | FEBRUARY 11, 2022 Indie-Pop songstress Emmrose releases her Indie-Pop anthem called “Run” on Friday, February 11th. “Run” is a song that empowers those who need to break free from a toxic relationship and partner. The song opens with a powerful drum beat that immediately draws in the listener with the intense lyrics and vocals of Emmrose. The indie-pop production of “Run” is significantly new for Emmrose, as the song was written and recorded in their Brooklyn studio with her producer Mike Abiuso who set her lyrics and melodies to an electronic, synth-based sound, which is quite a departure from her recent releases.
“Run” was such an empowering song to write. I wanted to create a break up anthem for anyone who had been through or was currently in an abusive relationship. I wanted “Run” to be inspiring for my listeners by bringing awareness on how toxic behavior in relationships is never ‘normal’ or ‘fine’. When the person you’re in a relationship with manipulates or gaslights you, it’s really important to end that relationship. I wanted this song to center around taking the power back. A healthy relationship needs balance, and in the kind of abusive relationship this song centers around, the toxic partner had all of the power. It got to such an extent to where the narrator of the song felt lost and broken. This leads to the narrator ending the relationship, therefore taking some power back. When the toxic partner ultimately tries to get back with the narrator by saying how “they’ve changed”, the narrator doesn’t fall for their lies and tells them to get lost!” -Emmrose
In my personal life, there were so many times when I was so close to giving in and getting back into a toxic relationship. I wanted this song to be a reminder that that sort of manipulation is exactly what abusive people want you to feel, so they have power over you once more. The lyrics in the bridge of this song epitomize all of these feelings-
It’s hard
To find light in the dark
Trapped in your twisted game
You can lose
Who we are
I won’t let you in
Tear me down
I’m so done
It’s your turn to
Run
From producer Mike Abiuso:
“Run” was such a fun sonic bedrock to build alongside Emmrose. It caters nicely to a new vibe and sound for her whilst maintaining integral elements of her dream-pop roots and obviously the same dark lyrical content which is a staple and fan favorite. We’ve had a blast pushing ourselves to explore different levels of somber and dreamy tunes and likewise have expanded and dabbled in producing unique dance and pop styles from different eras to put ourselves out of our comfort zones and learn a few things, but this approach felt like we were really putting Emmrose in not only a new realm, but a place with intimidating and mesmerizing control over the listener. -Mike Abiuso
ABOUT: Emmrose is an eighteen-year-old songwriter whose career began four years ago when she wrote her first pop song in math class. To date, she has released 13 singles an award-winning EP Hopeless Romantics and is currently working on her second EP while going to college in New York City. Emmrose is a prolific songwriter, who records exclusively at Behind the Curtains Media in Brooklyn, New York with producer Mike Abiuso. In May of 2020 her single “The Grass Was Greener” was placed on two Spotify Editorial playlists, a surprising event due to the fact that the entire recording and production had been done remotely during the COVID lockdown in NYC, with Emmrose in her Manhattan bedroom and her producer working in his Brooklyn apartment. Emmrose is signed to Secret Road Music services for sync licensing, and the single “Waitlisted” aired on MTV’s Teen Mom in November of 2021.
WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:
American Pancake, October, 2021
“Swim inside the deep emotional vortex of “Thorns” by New York based Emmrose and you might get blissfully lost. The production here is textured and beautifully lush but broken too. The ballad moves on Fender Rhodes like tones. This decision instead of a crystal clear grand piano sound gives the song grit and a lovely bite. The tasteful subtle beats and elegant orchestration via strings and background vox is wonderfully tempered. No need for overly dramatic sonic embellishments. The star here is Emmrose’s evocative beautiful croon with absorbing words and melodies. The song at it’s core, a dark passion play about the sharp consequences of betrayal and maybe even the scars left by healing is a musical narrative on par with artists like Adele and unbelievably Emmrose is about half her age.”

“That need to write something, to share a part of you and to shed old skin, is what helps us connect to artists. Besides, the lyrics Emmrose wrote describe a feeling we haven’t previously been able to put into words, and it is a comforting and soothing feeling to know we are not alone in this. ‘Thorns’ is a blessing in disguise, a soft and mesmerising pop song that we just can’t stop listening to!”
