NEW YORK, NY | February 9, 2018 – Striking forth with a burst of indie-rock energy and fierce spirit, Brooklyn’s LadyChild have made a bold introduction with their debut single “Out of Breath.” Paired with a nostalgically 90’s-esque raw yet flashy video of the band rocking out, LadyChild’s debut will get you geared up and ready to join the party. The video premiered on B-sides & Badlands, who compared LadyChild’s style to that of Janis Joplin, saying, “Ladychild inhabit that same psychedelic freestyle of the ’60s so unapologetically in their music.”
“The song ‘Out of Breath’ is an ode to the 90s grunge and garage band era,” shared leader singer Genevieve Faivre. “I just miss that kickass rawness rock music had during that time. It’s an energy and attitude that I feel is largely missing from popular music today.” Faivre explains the meaning of the song as the struggle of getting your foot in the door – feeling defeated and exhausted, when you’ve only just begun.
The shoot was a low-budget indie production, with talent brought together from across the Brooklyn community including direction by actress Eve Lindley (All We Had, Mr Robot), filming by Thomas Jezik, and production/editing by Richard Regula II. “Out of Breath” was filmed at King Killer Studios in Gowanus, Brooklyn, where the band described the vibe of the entire shoot as being the ‘epitome of Brooklyn art scene’. Faivre explained further, “There were musicians in and out of the building all day, people in the hallways discussing the concept of their albums, recording sessions, rehearsals, and photo shoots on the street outside. And then there was us, right in the middle of it; a large group of 25 year olds with lights, cameras, fog machines, drinking whisky all day, throwing glitter and calling it art.”
While LadyChild’s single will leave you revved up and ready to rock, a closer listen quickly hints at a medley of musical influences, including: pop, soul, jazz, and grunge inspired guitar riffs. Favire features ukulele as her choice favored instrument for the track, while layered instrumentation only add to it’s climatic rise of brazen yet tasteful power. “Out of Breath” comes as the first single off LadyChild’s upcoming self-titled debut EP, schedule for release on March 9, 2018. Described as having a “smorgasbord of sounds and styles,” fans will have plenty more to look forward to. It was produced by Michael Abiuso (The Venetia Fair, Kiss Kiss, The Gay Blades) at Behind the Curtains Media and recorded at Behind the Curtains Media and Mighty Toad Studio. “Out of Breath” is available for purchase and streaming now on Soundcloud and Bandcamp, and will be available Spotify, iTunes, and all major platforms in coming days.

About LadyChild: Genevieve Faivre is the lead singer and songwriter of LadyChild. She grew up just outside of New York City in Brewster, NY where she first began to study voice, piano, and performance. Much of her early inspirations came from classical music and theater but it didn’t take long for artists such a Radiohead and Bjork to make their way into her repertoire. She pursued classical voice and philosophy in college where her musical pallet was broadened by her professors and friends. Although she has been singing her whole life, she didn’t consider fronting an original band until she saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals’ perform in 2011. Genevieve moved to Brooklyn a few years after graduating college to pursue singing and composition as a career. Since moving to NYC, she has made a living performing and singing on many projects. While working as a freelance singer, Genevieve has been writing, recording and preparing her debut EP as LadyChild.
