“Sua” is a Sultry Dance Track Sung in both Brazilian Portuguese and English
New York, NY | December 6, 2024: Amanda Brecker releases her first dance track entitled “Sua” (Translation: “Yours”) on December 6, 2024.
Recorded and co-written by producer Mike Abiuso at Behind the Curtains Media, the song was originally created as a pitch for a dance rehearsal scene in an upcoming new series where they asked Mike for the lyrics to be sung in Brazilian Portuguese. This led Abiuso to dial up Amanda, a friend from childhood with whom he had always wanted to write a song. Mike wrote the instrumental track on a Saturday, and Brecker came in on Sunday afternoon to write lyrics and record vocals. By Monday morning, the song was fully mixed, mastered and pitched to the client.
Amanda grew up between São Paulo and New York, as her mother is the multi-Grammy award winning Brazilian artist, Eliane Elias. She has recorded different styles of Brazilian music in the past and this is her first Brazilian-Funk inspired track. Despite its name, it is not related to American funk music; instead, it draws influence from hip-hop, electro, and traditional Brazilian rhythms. Over the years, it has evolved into a distinct style that combines infectious beats, high energy, and socially conscious (or sometimes provocative) lyrics. “Funk Carioca” is characterized by powerful, fast-paced, and repetitive drum machine rhythms, often inspired by Afro-Brazilian percussion. The music is closely associated with bailes funk—large, often outdoor parties that originated in Rio’s favelas and became spaces for community, celebration, and self-expression.
