New York, NY | Thursday, November 21, 2024:
Emmrose, the 21-year-old NYC indie artist known for her distinctive alt pop sound, is set to release her latest single, “New Era,” on Thursday, November 21. Originally crafted as an introduction for her upcoming “Heartbreaker” EP, which drops in December, “New Era” evolved into a standalone track with a haunting, dreamlike quality—a dark reflection of the shifting societal tides.
In this release, Emmrose reunites with co-writer and collaborator Richard Orofino (Sex Week), who previously worked with her on “Electric Nights,” a track that earned a spot on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Indie. Together, they explore the theme of personal and societal change, using “New Era” as a mirror for the uncertainty of the times. Orofino’s distinctive production choices, from baritone guitar riffs to layered distortion, bring out a sense of disorientation, echoing the challenges faced within the arts community and beyond.
Emmrose adds,
“I wrote New Era during a time in my life where it felt like everything was falling apart all at the same time.
It honestly wasn’t ever going to be a full on song— I was working with songwriter/artist/producer Richard Orofino on some songs; and the day we we finished up on “Tattoo”, we had some time left in the session so we kinda just messed around and wrote “New Era”. It was so quick— he came up with such cool guitar chords, and immediately a melody came into my mind. The first lyrics I wrote were “I’m doing fantastic, yeah everything’s fine/ you lost your job, and we’re all gonna die” … which is still probably my favorite lyrics I’ve ever written. It perfectly encapsulates the sort of catastrophizing I do too often. In my mind, one bad thing happens and the whole world ends with it.
“I wanted the song to be short and tense. Dreamy and disconcerting. Richard made this super wild synth, it kinda sounded like a rusty broken machine. I got to turn a distortion knob while writing the part— and that was so much fun.”
“New Era” is released by Groover Obsessions, recorded and produced by Richard Orofino, mixed and mastered by Mike Abiuso at Behind the Curtains Media in Brooklyn. The single will be supported by a lyric video which will be released on December 6th, and act as the intro to the “Heartbreaker” EP to be released on December 13th.
