“Racunga” by Sage of New England

WOODSTOCK, NY | March 10, 2023  Sage of New England releases the indie-folk “Racunga”, the fifth single to be released of the EP called “Encounter” which will be released in April. Sage of New England is a 2-person group that is songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Matthew Hayes Jacobs and producer Justin Tracy, who have been working together on Sage of New England music for over 5 years.

“Racunga” is the name of a fictional spirit created by Hayes, and is about awakening the spirit of generosity, compassion, and adventure in our hearts.  For the listener to be healed and to be healers.  It is a song that encourages us to live life to the fullest. “Racunga” came to the artist when he was in a dark place in his life 12 years ago during a very challenging time with a mental health issue. In order to rise above the darkness he was experiencing, he wrote “Racunga” as a devotional song to encourage us to have strength, and to have patience during rough times. He was compelled to write this somewhat “Zen-Buddhist” type spiritual song during this time because he knew in time that there would be healing and he would one day be in a much better place.

Sage of New England

ABOUT: Based in Woodstock NY, Sage of New England is a band led by singer-songwriter Matthew Hayes Jacobs and producer Justin Tracy. Hayes’ intention is to write music with depth, particularly exploring themes of transformation and compassion. While the music is reflective, it also employs a wide palette of colors, instrumentation, and hints of other genres–including folk, and 90’s influences such as Bjork and Radiohead.

The name “Sage of New England” comes from one of Matthew’s songs due for release this spring of 2023, about a woman disillusioned by her search for inner peace. After moving to New England, she meets a farmer that guides her home. It serves as a reminder that wisdom can come from anywhere.

WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:

Obscure Sound, review of “Weaknesses”

“Featuring retrospective vocals and textured, atmospheric guitar tones, “Weaknesses” consumes with its lyrical meditation on self-growth and transformation. The project continues to tout hypnotic, atmospheric tones within lush acoustical backbones; “Weaknesses” enthralls with the subtle textural backings, akin to “sonic acupuncture.”
