THE TRACYS TAKE A JAB WITH THE PUNK SATIRE MUSIC VIDEO “A SOVIET MISTAKE”

THE TRACYS TAKE A JAB WITH THE PUNK SATIRE MUSIC VIDEO “A SOVIET MISTAKE”
February 8, 2023 by Suzanne Torrison

BROOKLYN | Feb. 14, 2023: Pop Punk icons The Tracys are back from a five year hiatus with the political satire “A Soviet Mistake”, released today on February 14th. The song and music video were inspired by true events when in 2018 the Russian spy Marina Butina infiltrated the National Rifle Association using her sultry style and love of firearms. Those who have Cold-War nostalgia will love the retro setting that features lead singer Dave Klym, with live edits from the band performing on stage and in the recording studio. The music was written by Dave Klym, Matt Ernst and Mike Abiuso, with video edited by The Tracys drummer Matt Ernst, and co-directed by both Ernst and Klym.

The use of dark humor is central to The Tracys punk style who take shots at anyone and anything, with the intent to entertain and get a good laugh. Don’t take things too seriously, see the world for the mess that it is and laugh about it instead of losing your mind. Watch “A Soviet Mistake” and have a good time, and wait for the next release by The Tracys, “Blockhead” dropping in March.

“Soviet Mistake is roughly based on recent true events. It tells a story of a Russian foreign agent (Maria Butina) that actually infiltrated the NRA.

I thought well, she’s pretty and a gun nut so it probably wouldn’t have been too hard to do. It makes for perfect fodder for a Ramones style love song from the point of view of the loser who fell for her and let her in and would stupidly do anything for her. I picture a sad dude in his mother’s dark basement on his computer. Anyway she was caught, jailed and kicked out of the country… no more Chipotle for her! Suka!” – Dave Klym

The Tracys

ABOUT: With infectious melodies and gallows humor, The Tracys’ brand of pop punk holds true to the sensibilities of old-school west coast punk. Raised on 80’s punk with a side of maple syrup, Alberta native Dave Klym (The Mike Plume Band, The Populars, Itch) is the driving force behind the band’s monster hooks and blazing solos. On rhythm guitars, John Payne (Puppetbox) has been known to contribute harmonies as silky as his  well-coiffed hair.  Larry Mancini  holds down the fort on the bass guitar with a little bit of whimsy, and a belly full of pizza. Anchoring this operation is drummer Matt Ernst, whose thunderous beats form the foundation for the group’s aggressive style.

New Noise Magazine 2018, Premiere “Your Team Sucks”

…”this song is a stadium anthem about unity in today’s day and age. No one can agree on anything, everyone’s picking sides, and maybe the only thing we have in common is ‘if your team’s not my team…your team sucks.’ The video is a kind of blooper reel of sports suckage from around the world and an homage to rabid, idiotic and wonderful fandom.”

Rebel Noise 2018, Track by track album review: “Humdinger”

“From the rancid shores of Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal rose a quartet of punk rockers called The Tracys.”
